Revealing Your Best Colors

Your Path to Freedom from Anxiety & Panic

I want to share with you a science experiment a friend did with her children. Stay with me and I’ll explain the connection to your anxiety.

One day my friend and her children went outside and collected a few green leaves. They chopped them up, put them in a jar, and doused them with rubbing alcohol. Then they set the jar in a small tub of hot water. After a short time, they put one end of a strip of filter paper (cut from a coffee filter) into the bottom of the jar and allowed the other end to hang over the top. The filter paper absorbed the alcohol and started to carry it to the top of the jar. Not surprisingly, the filter paper turned green, from the color of the leaves.

But what was fascinating was that the filter paper also turned yellow, orange, and red!

Where did those colors come from? The only thing that was in the jar was rubbing alcohol and green leaves. Why were we seeing yellow, orange, and red?

Everyone knows that leaves change color with the changing of the seasons. But the truth is: leaves don’t change color; they reveal different colors depending on the environment. In other words, all the colors of a leaf (green, yellow, orange, red) are always in the leaf. The color that’s revealed from the inside depends on the weather outside.

Inside you is a person free from anxiety. The problem might be that your environment isn’t conducive to revealing that potential.

I remember when I struggled with anxiety, not being able to sleep the night before a flight.

But once I learned to alter my home environment to facilitate my travel preparations, I was fine. I had the potential to be a calm traveler; I just needed to “preload” certain steps in the travel preparation process and that alleviated my anxiety.

(“Preloading” is one of the techniques discussed in more depth in Dr. Dan’s Anxiety Plan.)

In my experience working with people in Dr. Dan’s Anxiety Plan and in 1-on-1 private sessions, environment plays a crucial role in everyone’s anxiety level. And usually some simple changes to your environment can provide you with some immediate relief.

Improve Environment > Reduce Anxiety Level

Think about it. How could you change your environment in a way that would reduce your anxiety? What around you has to change in order for your best colors to be revealed?
